Pieff was a prominent name in high-end British furniture during the 1960s and 70s. Known as “Luxury furniture of the late 20th Century,” it was characterized by its original design, smooth lines, and unique combination of striking materials. Today, the term is often used to describe any design that is ahead of its time.
Pieff Furniture was a family-run business that operated from the 1960s to the 1980s in Lye, West Midlands. Led by Tim Bates and his family, the company designed and produced some of the most innovative, British-made, modern furniture. Pieff’s designs had a hint of Hollywood regency, crafted from glamorous materials such as mirrored chrome, Brazilian Rosewood, high-quality leather, and Pirelli webbing. With a reputation for excellence and exclusivity, Pieff Furniture was sold through high-end stores like Harrods and Heals.
Their collection was described in their brochure as reflecting “a certain lifestyle. A privileged one, we admit. But then, Pieff is very exclusive furniture. This fact is recognized not just in Britain, but throughout the world. Our designers are as individual as the people who own them, and our originality is evident in every addition to our collection. Inspired ideas combine exciting shapes, contrasting materials, textures, and tones. The results are classically simple in concept, yet utterly modern in execution. The designer’s imagination is matched only by the craftsman’s exceptional skill. And to complement both, we ensure that everything that goes into making Pieff furniture is of the finest quality. The touch is unmistakable. Which is why it may surprise you to learn that not everyone is impressed with the Pieff collection. But, of course, not everyone can afford to be.”
